Je to už šest let, co jsme se poprvé s kamarádem pokusili vystoupit na Matterhorn v zimním období. Důvody byly jasné, chtěl jsem si v ,,klidu,, bez davů vystoupit na tuto krásnou horu a netlačit se na vrcholu s dalšími 50 lidmi. To je běžná situace v hlavní sezóně, v létě.
Nicméně se nám tenkrát zkazilo počasí a výstup jsme museli vzdát asi 200m pod vrcholem. Neúspěšné pokusy se opakovaly ještě 2x, na vině nebylo počasí ale slabá psychická připravenost spolulezců.  Tyto další marné pokusy mě ujistili v tom, že pokud chci Matterhorn někdy vylézt, musím najít otrlého horolezce se silnou motivací k dosažení vrcholu. Druhou podmínkou k úspěchu také bylo, aby se ten někdo, mohl sbalit kdykoliv a vyrazit hned jak se počasí umoudří alespoň na 5 dnů v kuse, což v zimním období v alpách bývá málokdy.

Bohužel tato chata byla zrovna v přestavbě a na rozdíl od předcházejících let zde nebyl k dispozici winter-raum. Takže zase bivak a budíček na 4 ráno. V neděli v pět ráno zjišťujeme asi po 10 minutách chůze, že dnes se nikam nedostaneme, maximálně tak do hrobu. Vítr foukal asi víc, než bylo v předpovědi a přes létající sníh prostě nebylo nic vidět. Jenže zima jako v pr…, závětří žádné, foukalo úplně všude, a co budeme celý den dělat?
Obhlídnuli jsem okolí nové chaty a hledali jsme, kde bychom se zakopali. Shodli jsme se, že se zahrabeme hned vedle bývalé chaty.
